As a parent, ensuring a peaceful sleep environment for our babies is so important and this is where white noise comes in. It’s a soothing tool that mimics calming sounds from nature, helping babies relax and in turn, sleep better.

With various sound options available, like nature sounds, fan hums and even womb noises, white noise can be a perfect addition to your baby’s bedtime routine, providing comfort and peace for a restful night’s sleep.

If you want a quick answer, the best white noise machine for babies is the Dreamegg, which is affordable yet packed full of different sounds for your little one. However, if you want a white noise machine that also doubles up as a cuddly toy, Ewan The Sheep is the best alternative that replicates the comfort of the womb with actual recordings.

Alternatively, if you are looking for a more ‘high-tech’ white noise machine that features multiple sounds plus mood lighting that can be controlled from your phone, the Momcozy alternative is the perfect solution.

To rate the white noise machines within our roundup, we based our recommendations on testing, our experience using multiple white noise machines with our children, the latest research and several factors. Some of the factors that we considered included the design, portability, value, sound quality, timers and additional features (i.e. lights) and warranty.

Best White Noise Overview

Below is a list of the best white noise machines that promotes sleep as well as calming your baby.

1. Best All Round: Dreamegg White Noise Machine

If you are looking for a white noise machine that is small, portable but mighty, then look no further than the Dreamegg. This clever machine features 11 different sounds, adjustable light settings and a child lock so once you have your preferred setting, even if the buttons are pressed the setting will not change.

What makes the Dreamegg stand out from the crowd is that it is very lightweight and it can be easily taken around with you, so you know naps on the go can still happen.

Pros
  • Backed by 1 year warranty
  • 2 colour options
  • Adjustable light settings
  • 11 different soothing sounds (our favourite is white noise)
  • Very portable and can be hung by using clip/rope
  • Desirable USB charging
  • Multiple preset sound timers
Cons
  • Longest timer is 90 minutes (If you want longer you have to use it in continuous mode)

This was my saviour when my son was a baby because we have dogs who like to bark but by using the Dreamegg, as soon as I put the white noise on it completely blocked out all the background noise and it worked a treat. I am very impressed with this white noise machine and I still to this day continue to use it with my other children.

To conclude, with its jam-packed features in such a small machine, you will not be disappointed with the Dreamegg. When compared to other machines we have tested, it really does tick all the boxes.

2. Best Value: Easysleep Sound Machine

The Easysleep brand has certainly thought about everything with its white noise machine. This is because it features 25 sounds, 32 different volume settings and a choice of 5 timers. In addition to this the sound machine comes in 4 different colours, so you can choose one that would best fit in with your home design.

Pros
  • Soothing night light
  • The machine comes in 4 different colours
  • Portable
  • Very easy to use
  • Good sound quality noted during testing

During testing, one feature that stood out to me on this machine was the light. Its subtle and calming glow joint with the white noise helped calm my son, especially during his colic period.

To conclude, the Easysleep Sound Machine is a very popular choice amongst parents and considering how many features are jam-packed into the machine, for the price of the product you can’t go wrong.

3. Best Womb Sound: Ewan The Sheep Deluxe

By far the most popular choice for white noise machines for babies is Ewan the Sheep! This is reflected in its popularity amongst babies and parents. The reason for its popularity is that it features real womb, heartbeat, rainfall, harp lullaby, vacuum cleaner and shushing recordings that are proven to help soothe your baby and promote longer-lasting sleep.

These noises are all played at a low recording known as ‘pink noise’ which reminds the baby of the comfort of being inside mummy’s tummy. In addition to this, it features a clever cry sensor by listening for 4 hours and if it detects a baby cry it will automatically play your chosen sound to help resettle your baby, so you don’t have to!

Pros
  • Easy to remove noise pod means you can easily wash Ewan
  • Soft glow light mimics womb environment
  • 3 different colour choices for Ewan
  • Auto timer for light and sounds
  • Doubles up as a cuddly teddy
  • Lightweight and easy to use
Cons
  • Battery operated so will need to be constantly checked

Whilst testing Ewan The Sheep, I found it great in soothing my little one, however, I did find it more difficult to take out and about with me as it didn’t fit neatly into my bag. With that being said, at home it helped calm my son and ensure he stayed asleep if he did wake crying. I loved the fact that if my son cried within the 4-hour listening window, Ewan would reset and start the 4 hours again. Ewan also made a great companion in my son’s room to reassure him.

This is by far one of the most popular choices of sound machines to help soothe babies on the market. The thought and designs that have gone into Ewan are second to none and will provide peace and calm for your baby and you!

During testing, I found the design and ease of use great and when putting my son down for a nap it was a pleasure as the machine made it easy for me! The only issue I would like to say is that it could do with having more ‘baby-related sounds’ such as ‘shhing’ and heartbeat.

Overall, the Lectrofan Machine is impressive with its easy-to-use features making it unique and desirable for many parents.

How We Rated

As a parent, I firmly believe in the importance of using white noise machines for babies.

These devices create a soothing environment that mimics the sounds they experienced in the womb, promoting better sleep and reducing fussiness. By creating a calm atmosphere, white noise machines play a crucial role in supporting the overall well-being of babies by inducing peaceful sleep.

From those that have 40 different sounds, 3 sounds to those that have lights, we have tried and tested quite a few different white noise machines over the last couple of years and have listed those we found particularly helpful above.

I love using the Dreamegg in particular with my son, especially when I am out and about with him and need him to nap on the go. As shown in the image below, I can easily attach it to the pram, which means on the go, it works great to block out background noise so he can continue to sleep peacefully. Its portability is a key feature and it enables me to put my son to sleep virtually anywhere (i.e. even when I am at soft play with his older brother!).

When we are at home, I love to use Ewan The Sheep. This is because I don’t want the white noise on all night and the fact that Ewan can detect when my son cries is great as it soothes him straight back to sleep. As you can see in the pictures below, it’s also easy to take the pod out of the bottom to wash Ewan which I have had to do a few times!
