Travelling around with a toddler can be difficult, especially if they are looking for more entertainment and this is where the Doona Liki Trike comes into play. It is a great replacement for those who do not like being in the pram/pushchair or just simply for those who want a trike! Its patented small easy fold and storage make it simple to transport making walks and errands fun and easy!

Doona’s trademarked term ‘Simple Parenting’ just shows how they have parents in mind in all their products and the Liki Trike does not disappoint.

The Liki Trike has been designed to grow with your child (from about 10 months – 36 months). There are 4 stages to be used and these can be found on their website or in the leaflet that comes with the Trike.

The Design & Build Quality

A standout feature when compared to other trikes we have reviewed is the design and build quality. The sturdiness can be found in any component of the trike and with any part that you connect comes together with an all important ‘click’, reassuring you as a parent that it is put together well.

I have no doubt in my mind that this trike will last through all my children due to Doona’s superior design and build quality.

How Easy Is The Trike To Fold & Unfold?

Folding and unfolding items can be such a daunting task for parents, however, you won’t be disappointed with the fold on the Liki Trike, it’s super easy and quick to do! When I first had the trike I found it quite tricky, but once you have done the fold/unfold a couple of times you will soon get the hang of it and do it without even thinking about it.

To Fold

To fold the trike you will want to ensure that you first put the brake on. Pull out the metal clasp that is holding the parent bar to the trike and this should then loosen the bar to allow you to pull it out (place this to the side). Depending on what stage you have your trike in will depend on the next step you take. I have my trike in the first stage so I will cover all basis.

Once you have completed the above step in removing the parent bar, pull back the sun canopy so it is folded over the back of the seat. Push the button in (in front of the handlebar) and slide the clasp to the left on the handlebars – this will then release the handlebars to fold down on themselves. You can then pull the clasp in between the handlebars and lift the arm rest so it is resting on the back of the seat.

Once you have completed the above, you are ready to fold down the seat and collapse the trike. To fold the seat, simply pull up the yellow clasp on the back of the seat and push forward (this should also fold with the armrest and lay on top of the folded handlebars). To collapse the trike push the two black buttons on either side of the trike located above the footrest (pedals). Pull back on the fabric handle (located at the bottom of the trike on the back) and the trike should collapse.

Below is a video we posted on our YouTube channel showing how to fold the trike:

To Unfold

You have finally got to your destination and now is the time to unfold the Liki Trike. To do this, simply lay it on the floor and start pulling up the parts (you will know when you have them in position as they will click into place). Then attach the parent bar, ensuring you secure it into place using the metal lock clip and you are ready to go!

When the Trike is in its folded position it is 32 x 60 x 23.3 cm in size and weighs just 6.7KG! This means that it is one of the most compact folding trikes on the market, in fact in the world! It will fit very comfortably wherever you go, even in an aeroplane overhead cabinet!

How Easy Is The Parent Bar To Use/Handle?

Pushing your toddler out and about could not be made easier than the Doona Liki Trike. With their easy-to-handle push bar, you can simply control the trike using one hand which means you have your other hand free to hold your coffee.

In addition to the above, Doona have added adjustable height positioning on the handlebar for that added comfort when pushing. To adjust the height, push the button located in the middle of the handlebar and push down or pull up.

Does The Sun Canopy Provide Suitable Protection?

When you are out and about on those sunny days (with this trike I certainly was with my son!) I was worried about the SPF on the hood and if it provided enough protection. The honest answer is no, it is not as protective as my pram hood, however, for a trike it’s good enough! My son did wear a hat whilst he was on the trike but as far as covering my son’s head it did just that!

How Comfortable Is The Seat On The Doona Liki Trike?

Comfort was such an important factor for me when it came to trikes and after testing a few, the Doona was up there with the best. This is mainly due to its soft padded seats that gives it that luxury feel as well as comfort.

In addition to the padded cushioning, the seat also has a 3-point recline which is a great option if your toddler just wants to sit back, relax and enjoy their ride.

How Safe Is The Trike?

A worry amongst many parents is the safety element of any item and especially something that will be transporting their child. The Doona Trike features a 3-point safety harness and armrest (for the younger ones) to ensure your child is safe and secure at all times.

In addition to this, I found one feature very impressive which was the locking mechanisms on the Trike. Initially, when I set up the trike the pedals moved as the wheel turned, which kept knocking my son’s feet and made him very uncomfortable. However, Doona’s clever design team thought about this and by simply sliding the button on the wheel, it stopped this straight away. This is just another example of how Doona’s intuitive design takes safety into account.

Doona Liki Trike Pro's & Con's

Pros
  • The material is made out of fibre reinforced polymers and rust-free aluminum - prolonging the life of the trike
  • Very small fold
  • Easy to transport
  • Grows with your child (features 4 stages)
  • Easy to push and manoeuvre using the parent bar handle
  • A good looking trike when compared to similar alternatives
  • Adjustable parent handle bar to suit your height
Cons
  • Can be expensive when compared to other trikes on the market
  • During the first couple of uses it was difficult to get used to the fold/unfold the trike
  • Event though it is a small fold, you will still have to think about storage of the parent handle-bar

YourTot's Verdict

To conclude our review, The Doona Liki Trike is the ultimate trike that gives you a luxurious look and feel. When in comparison to other trikes it is very sturdy and built to a high standard.

Its intuitive design allows you to get out and about safely and with ease. Doona’s patented small fold also allows you to transport the trike with ultimate simplicity thus making your life easier.

Standout features that I love as a mother using this trike are the look, its easy-to-control parent handlebar, the fact that the trike grows with my child and the comfort of the seat unit.

There isn’t much to dislike about the Doona Liki Trike, it comes in 2 colours for the Doona Liki Trike S1 but there is more expensive model (S5) that comes in 2 colours and 2 limited edition colours.
