Mamas & Papas Ocarro Review
Travel systems for your little one can be an overwhelming choice with all the pushchair bundles that are available on the market. Here at YourTot we only want the best available; therefore, after numerous tests, we bring you our Mamas & Papas Ocarro review.
Finding a travel system can be such a daunting task for any parent, especially with so many to choose from.
Although the Mamas & Papas Ocarro does come with a heftier price tag when compared to similar pushchairs on the market, you will not be disappointed with everything it has to offer.
Mamas & Papas have been on the scene since 1981 and as well as producing their own range of nursery furniture, they also offer a huge range of pushchairs. However, the Ocarro is their signature pushchair which is available in several colours and textures, tailoring the pram to your style/taste.
For certain colours, the Ocarro can be purchased on its own, however, for the majority of the colours they come in a bundle. Which colour/bundle you choose will boil down to how much you want to spend. Bundles come in 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 pieces. For this article, I reviewed the bundle we bought, which was the Ocarro 10-piece bundle in the colour Onyx.
This Onyx Ocarro bundle featured:
- Car seat to pram adapters
- Onyx nappy bag
- Cybex Cloud Z car seat
- Car seat base for the car
- Pushchair chassis and seat unit(Rain cover included)
- Cup Holder
- Sheepskin liner (Grey)
We purchased the Mamas & Papas Ocarro (Onyx colour) so that we could thoroughly test it over several weeks and assess it based on a number of factors such as durability, SPF, comfort, ease of folding and putting it into the car
There are many more factors that we considered and the above are only a few, please keep reading for our full review.
How Easy Is It To Use The Pushchair?
After testing numerous pushchairs, one feature that was very important to me was how easy and quick it would be to fold, unfold and fit the pushchair into the car. The Ocarro did not disappoint! Once I had got the hang of it, it was very easy and quick to fold!
How Easy Is It To Fold?
When you first get the Ocarro it can be quite daunting when you have to try and fold it, however, after doing it plenty of times you will certainly get the hang of it!
Firstly, you will want to ensure that the brake is on, pull back the silver bar in the middle of the handle and then twist it up towards you, this should then release the handlebar allowing you to push it forward.
Once the handlebar is pushed forward, pull the clip at the back of the seat towards you and push the seat unit forward.
You will notice that there are two green lines on either side of the base of the seat, the purpose of this is to give you an indication of when you can lift and fold.
Once the two green lines are aligned, simply hold the bar at the base of the seat, then pull it towards you resting the pushchair on your leg. The pram should fold and click into place using the safety catch on the side.
How Easy Is The Ocarro To Unfold?
As easy as it is to fold, it’s just as easy to unfold, simply lay the pram flat, release the safety catch, pull the handle up with a flick action and this should release the base of the pram (you should hear it click into place). Once you are at this stage, you can then pull the seat up waiting for it to click into place, then lift the bumper bar and your pram is ready to go!
If you would like to see this the fold and unfold process in action we posted a video on our YouTube channel to show how easy it is to do.
What Is The Handlebar Like?
As you will be pushing the pram around, you will want to ensure that you are comfortable whilst you push and this pushchair does just that. Not only is it comfortable for your little one but it is kind and soft on your hands, this is because the pram features a beautiful leather bar. In addition to this, for extra comfort, Mamas & Papas have included stylish clips on either side to make it easy for you to pull up the handle or lower it to best suit your height.
Is The Basket Large And Easy To Access?
When I was testing other pushchairs, one important element to me was the ease of access to the basket. Although many pushchairs on the market do bear that in mind including the Ocarro, many didn’t.
The basket on the Ocarro is large in comparison to others and features a pocket at the front for quick and easy access (I store hand sanitiser and wet wipes in this compartment). When the pram is up, it is very easy to get into the basket and its high sides mean that your items are kept safe and dry when out and about.
How Comfortable Is The Seat Unit?
Due to its lie-flat facility and supported head cushion, this pushchair is suitable for use from newborn. The seat features 3 different positions to get the best comfort for your child and it is easy to adjust even whilst your child is in the seat. Additional comfort is also supported by the padded chest and crotch pads.
My son was very long at birth and continued to be a tall toddler and so for me, I wanted to ensure I picked a pram that would grow with him. Thanks to Mamas & Papas large padded seat, my son can move and get comfortable and enjoy his ride in the Ocarro.
What Is The SPF Like With The Hood?
The extendable hood is a feature that I love. You can have the hood in its normal position or extended by unzipping the extra fabric. Mamas & Papas have outdone themselves with this luxurious design as the zip can be hidden by the flap. On those really hot sunny days I do feel reassured that my child’s head is covered and protected from the sun.
Another feature I love about the hood is that you can unzip and open the flap to ventilate air through the pram to ensure your child is kept cool. In addition to the above, the hood goes right the way back which is great for babies who are more curious and love to look at what is going on around them.
Does The Pushchair Come With A Sheepskin Liner?
As mentioned previously Mamas & Papas do all different types of bundles to suit your budget, therefore it may come with a bundle you choose. However, if it doesn’t come with the bundle you choose don’t fear as they do sell it separately.
The clever design of the sheepskin liner works by absorbing moisture to keep your child comfortable and cool on those hot sunny days. Another benefit of this liner is the fact that it’s in your pushchair, therefore helping protect the seat and keeping it clean!
Does The Rain Cover Come With The Pushchair?
The rain cover comes with the pushchair as standard but the best thing about the rain cover is that it fits all three attachments (car seat, carrycot and pushchair seat).
In addition to the above, storing the rain cover is super easy especially if you are going to be out all day and unsure if it will rain. Simply scrunch the rain cover down (it does go really small!) and place it in the basket.
The large basket is great for storage and really handy for the rain cover and the fact that the rain cover does scrunch down small allows for plenty of space for storage of other items.
How Easy Is It To Attach The Car Seat To The Ocarro?
This was a feature that I wasn’t sure if I was going to use, however, we used it all the time!
It was so helpful when my son fell asleep in the car seat (which was a lot when he was little) and I didn’t have to disturb him by taking him out of the car seat and putting him into his pushchair.
It is not advised that you let your baby stay asleep in the car seat for long periods, however, our bundle came with the Cybex Cloud Z car seat which has a layback function, giving us that extra time when he did fall asleep.
In terms of attaching the car seat to the Ocarro, the clips are very easy to install. They are numbered 1 & 2 and you click these into place with the corresponding numbers on the chassis and then you can slot the car seat on top, which is very easy and hassle-free to use.
Does The Ocarro Come With Anything Else That Is Worth Noting?
The bundle that we chose came with the parasol and footmuff. The footmuff is amazing to use when the weather turns colder, it provides that extra heat and warmth so you can still take your baby out and about knowing they are warm and cosy. If you decide against the bundle including the footmuff, fear not, as you can purchase this separately.
The parasol can also be purchased separately and it is a great addition to the extendable hood to ensure your child is fully covered from the sun.
What Is The Carrycot Like?
This was my first ever pushchair and I always wanted a carrycot as it’s safer and more practical to use when out and about. I was not disappointed with the quality and comfort the Ocarro carrycot provided for my newborn son.
In terms of how long you can use the carrycot, Mamas & Papas state that it can be used from newborn until the age of six months or until they can sit up unaided.
The carrycot features a soft mattress that is enclosed in a silk cover, however, to me, the mattress needed extra protection from spit up and vomit and so I used a Moses basket mattress sheet upon it (which fitted very well).
Another feature I loved about the carrycot was that if my son fell asleep in the pram and I was somewhere the pram couldn’t fit, I could easily take the carrycot off using the handle at the base. You can do this by simply pulling the clasp towards you and lifting it using the leather handle at the top of the hood.
The hood of the carrycot is very easy to push down by simply pushing the two buttons on either side (inside) and pushing back on the hood. To pull it back up, you simply just pull it up! Another great benefit of the hood is that it features a big air vent at the back for the hotter days to ensure air is circulating to your baby.
The clever design on the cover of the carrycot allows you to remove it quickly and with ease, this is because it has a magnet to connect the cover to the cot and then two poppers at the top to attach it to the hood.
As you can see from our pictures, our carrycot features a beautiful crosshatch design on the cover and a sleek leather cover over the handle (in the hood). This is one feature I would like to note, Mamas and Papas have outdone themselves with the luxury and quality feel to the Ocarro and all of the colours/styles feature something different.
Do The Wheels Live Up To What Mamas & Papas Suggest?
Believe it or not, when I was looking at pushchairs, wheels played a big part in my decision, this is because I wanted to ensure I had a pram that could be used on all terrain. As we have two dogs and love to go on walks (which include many offroad walks), I wanted to ensure that our child could safely and comfortably come with us. After pushing and testing numerous pushchairs, the Ocarro came out as one of the best for me. The puncture-proof tyres combined with the Ocarro’s dual suspension ensures that it can be used in all types of terrain.

Mamas & Papas Ocarro FAQ
The Ocarro pushchair can be used from birth up to 22kg which is usually around 4 years of age.
We have tried and tested this and we have found that it fitted very comfortably in a Volkswagen Golf.
Luckily, the pram does come with a 2 year warranty. In order to get the faulty parts fixed you may be able to pop it into store to see if they can help or ring their customer services line, who are always very helpful wanting to get the issues sorted for you promptly.
As with the seat positions, this pram features two types of positions for your child’s legs to get maximum comfort for your child.
